New Horizons

Since Imagine Arts Festival began 19 years ago we have included the work each year of many of the local youth dance companies under the title 'Youth Dance Celebration'. This year we have re-imagined the relationship because of the Pandemic and we are instead commissioning three youth dance companies to collaborate with local filmmakers and videographers, together with musicians, poets and spoken word artists to create short dance film pieces.

Venue: Online Event

Date / Time: 2:00pm, Wednesday, 20th October

Admission: Free Event

The following dance companies are taking the challenge:

  • The Arts Complex - WAMA and TheatreBox
  • The Place of Dance  ‘Akasha Movement’
  • Aery Faery - Aerial dance and fitness group

We look forward to seeing the resulting work with the overall title 'New Horizons' as part of Imagine Arts Festival 2021

The Arts Complex

These video were all produced by our students, with the help and guidance of their Dance teacher Alice Reville at TheatreBox.  Up until recently, restrictions were such that we were only allowed to work with students on a 1-2-1 basis, and so these videos were the product of a 5 week mini project that they took on in August 2021. It was the first time these dancers were able to express their artform in a year and half, and so it was a welcome release for them, which is noticeable in their beautiful performances.  Filmed at The Arts Complex by Colin Shanahan of Digicol Photography & Media Productions.

Students also have the option of taking recognised graded examinations if they wish.

The Place of Dance - 'Into the Woods'

Choreographed & Directed by Trish Roche

Performed by The Place of Dance & Akasha Youth Dance Company.

The pandemic impacted and changed the shape of every aspect our lives. Our homes and gardens became our studios where dance kept us strong, motivated and connected.

The innovation that evolved from such challenging times took us to new horizons. Connecting us more with nature, creativity & other amazing artists then presented us this wonderful opportunity to create our work for the Youth Dance Celebration 2021.

To celebrate creativity, connection and the joy of coming back together, I was inspired to take the dance ‘Into the Woods’ of the beautiful Dunmore East.

Aery Faery

Aery Faery - An aerial dance/acrobatics group founded by Diane Burke and operating in Tramore since 2019.

New Horizons - Set in the beautiful woodlands of Ballyscanlon and performed to the ancient tune The King of the Fairies played and recorded for us by the fabulous Michelle Haberlin. Myself and 4 wonderful aerialists have come together to perform this piece as our first together since our release back into our version of normality.  Imagine the re-emergence of our own aerial society and indeed society in general back into playful, fun togetherness towards our newly imagined horizons.  We had so much fun working on this piece together and are super excited to share it with you all.

Aerialists: Sefanya Kamp, Maia Heylin, Ciara Brosnan, Amy Brosnan, Diane Burke

Music: The King of the Fairies, played by Michelle Haberlin, recorded by Noel Cleary

Photography: Grainne Delaney, Imelda Brosnan
